Elderly Care
The majority of older people in the Islands are cared for by relatives at home. Our Social Services team also provides some support and assistance for the more vulnerable members of our community.
Older people who need nursing support which cannot be provided at home, are cared for in the Elderly Care Unit, seven rooms which are adjacent to the main ward in the hospital. All residents have their own room and ensuite facility. There is also a Day Centre in the hospital which offers activities for the elderly and less able, and a dining room which provides meals.
There government also provides supported living accommodation outside of the hospital and places are jointly allocated by professionals working across the Health and Social Services directorate. Mobile wardens visit residents on a regular basis and are responsible for responding to the 24/7 call system.
