Ferry and Coastal Shipping Service Demand Study – Stanley Workshop
In August, the Falkland Islands Government advised the public that work had started on a demand study for ferry and coastal shipping services. This work is the first step in helping to understand the demand for ferry services and coastal shipping that the Islands are likely to face in the coming years.
The survey is being undertaken by Workboat Services Ltd, supported by an independent contractor, Darren Christie. To date, the work has involved analysing existing data in order to observe trends in ferry and coastal shipping services over the last 10 years. Additionally, the community were encouraged to put forward their views on future needs for ferry and coastal services through an online survey.
The next stage of the study is to engage the community through a series of workshops, one of which has already been held on West Falkland. There will be public workshop held in the Chamber of Commerce at 5.30pm on Wednesday 31 March. The workshop will start with a short presentation summarising the results of the data analysis for the last 10 years of the ferry service and the online survey. There will then be a series of discussions focussed on issues such as barriers to growth of the service and future demand.
If anyone is unable to attend the workshop but would like to put their thoughts forward to inform the study, they can contact Darren on This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or 52811.
In addition to the public workshop, there will also be two sector-based workshops in Stanley in late March and invitations for these will be sent out soon.
