Clarification over civilian access to Mount Pleasant Complex

Due to social distancing measures, civilian access to social facilities at MPC is not currently permitted.

BFSAI advise that access to the air terminal for passengers travelling on the South Atlantic Airbridge remains and passengers can be collected from, or dropped off at, the terminal providing all current requirements regarding holding a ZUB and vehicle pass are met.

Further to FIG press statement of 6 July 2020 on the South Atlantic Airbridge, the Falkland Islands Government would like to provide the following additional clarification.

The Infectious Diseases Control (Coronavirus, Quarantine) Regulations 2020 (“the regulations”) require persons arriving in the Falkland Islands to travel directly to the address where they are required to stay in quarantine.

Persons arriving in the Falkland Islands at MPA who intend to travel to Stanley to undertake their quarantine are encouraged to book a commercial bus transfer service. This is so that the number of drivers having contact with passengers going into quarantine is reduced.

This is not a requirement of the regulations, but it is encouraged for public health reasons to support the quarantine regulations. The aim of the regulations is to reduce the risk of transmission of coronavirus through travel into the Islands. The regulations do not seek to remove all risk, but seek to manage that risk proportionately.

Drivers who choose to collect passengers themselves are strongly encouraged to take the following precautions wherever possible:

  • Only one passenger per vehicle unless they live in the same household
  • Carry passengers in the back seats if possible
  • All parties wear face coverings
  • Maximise ventilation where feasible (for example open windows if conditions allow)
  • Follow good hand hygiene advise, including the use of hand cleaning gel
