05 February 2021 - ‘Restriction on Movement’ Declaration now in force in the Falkland Islands

ExCo has agreed to the making and publication of a Declaration to bring into force regulations 11 (restrictions on movement) and 12 (restrictions on movement – specified areas) in order to ‘prevent, protect against, delay or otherwise control the incidence or transmission of coronavirus in the Falkland Islands.’ The regulations form part of the Infectious Diseases Control (Coronavirus) (No 2) Regulations.

As part of its fifth review into the range of policies, protocols and legislation surround Covid-19, ExCo met twice in contingency this week to consider a series of new recommendations.

Welcome to February’s monthly Covid-19 update. Following the main news, I will then be reading out a statement which outlines the logistics for the KEMH Covid-19 vaccination programme which begins on Monday 8 February 2021.

03 February 2021 - King Edward VII Memorial Hospital Covid-19 vaccination programme

As our first consignment of Oxford/AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccines have arrived safely in the Falkland Islands, we will start our KEMH Covid-19 vaccination programme on 8 February.

02 February 2021 - Changes to KEMH clinical processes

Following the admission to the hospital of a Covid-19 patient, KEMH has reviewed its clinical processes and practices in order to ensure that as many precautions are in place as possible.

02 February 2021 - FIG working with industry to ensure safe fisheries operations for 2021 season

Prior to the start of the 2021 fishing season, the Falkland Islands Government understood that the fishing industry had implemented robust Covid-19 protocols across the fishing fleet to ensure that they could operate safely and meet the necessary public health requirements.

01 February 2021 - ExCo approves Falkland Islands vaccination rollout

Executive Council has this afternoon approved plans for the Falkland Islands Covid-19 vaccination rollout.

01 February 2021 - The Falkland Islands welcome delivery of Covid-19 vaccines

The Falkland Islands Government has welcomed the delivery of the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine on Monday 1 February 2021. Upon arrival the vaccines were carefully offloaded from the South Atlantic Airbridge and were transported by road to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, where they were immediately taken to refrigeration units within the hospital.

01 February 2021 - LATAM update

The Falkland Islands Government can confirm that commercial airlinks with both Chile and Brazil will remain suspended for a further three months until 29 June 2021.

31 January 2021 - Access to MPC continues to be restricted

Further to the announcement on 28 January confirming that a military medic involved in quarantine surveillance swabbing had tested positive for Covid-19, a meeting between BFSAI and FIG took place today at midday to determine the next required actions.
