COVID-19: Information and Guidance

31 January 2021

Access to MPC continues to be restricted

Further to the announcement on 28 January confirming that a military medic involved in quarantine surveillance swabbing had tested positive for Covid-19, a meeting between BFSAI and FIG took place today at midday to determine the next required actions.

Contact tracing and testing identified all level one contacts and these were placed into isolation. One additional member of medical staff tested positive for COVID-19 today. As a result, BFSAI will continue to restrict access to the base for the next 14 days. This means that travel to and from MPC* should not be undertaken unless absolutely essential. People should not put themselves at risk and should speak to their employers in order to limit their movements on and off MPC as much as possible.

An ExCo contingency meeting is taking place tomorrow which will appraise the current situation and decide if any further public protection measures are required. As previously advised, the airbridge will continue to operate as usual for both northbound and southbound flights, and passengers are still able to fly.

More information about COVID-19 and steps people can take to remain vigilant and keep themselves safe is available by visiting the government website: www.fig.gov.fk/covid-19.

*MPC includes Mount Pleasant Airfield, Mount Pleasant Head Quarters, RADCON and East Cove Military Ports (Mare Harbour Port).
