Mechanic - Firefighter 

Department: Emergency Services & Island Security 

Job title: Mechanic - Firefighter 

FIG Grade  F starting salary £25,450 - £29,189 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. 

The Opportunity: Assist with the provision of an efficient and effective Fire and Rescue Service for the safety and protection of all within the Falkland Islands (land, sea, and air).

Essential Criteria: A qualified mechanic to NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent), or the ability to demonstrate a solid track record or experience in mechanics (i.e. 5 years as a mechanic working to a similar level) and the ability to organise maintenance schedules and keep accurate records.

Additional Information: Due to the sensitive nature of this role, successful candidates will be required to undergo enhanced background and criminal record checks.

Plant Operaptor/Handypersons - Property and Municipal 

 

Department: Property and Municipal Department

Job Title: Plant Operator/Handypersons 

FIG Grade G1 starting salary £21,635 - £23,943 per annum depending on qualifications and experience.

The Opportunity: To carry out driving and plant operating duties on public and FIG sites as required by the Municipal Foreman and to assist with the general maintenance and repair of FIG’s buildings and properties as required.

Essential Criteria: A valid HGV driving licence, minimum of 2 years construction of heavy plant experience including operating 360o excavators, 180o excavators, telescopic handlers, and dozers.

Additional Information: This position is subject to a satisfactory criminal record check

WASTE MANAGEMENT – Waste Operative

 

Department: Waste Management - Property and Municipal

Job title: Waster Operative 

FIG Grade  G1 starting salary £21,635 - £24,779 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. 

The Opportunity: The Waste Operative will undertake a range of duties required to operate the Eliza Cove Landfill and Waste Transfer Facility at Megabid. This includes driving and plant operating duties on and around the landfill sites and the Waste Transfer Facility as required by the Waste Manager.

NB: The post holder will be required to undergo inoculation against Hepatitis A & B if not already inoculated.

Essential Criteria: A valid HGV licence, a minimum of 2 years’ experience in the use of heavy plant and machinery, including 360 excavators, 180 excavators, telescopic handlers, and dozer. An understanding of domestic building services maintenance and repairs is also required.
