NATURAL RESOURCES - Agricultural Advisor - Wool and Sheep Genetics

The Opportunity: The Department of Agriculture (DoA) works to foster a viable and internationally competitive agricultural industry through integrated services, applied research and development, extension, business skill development and regulatory programmes. The Agricultural Advisor – Wool and Sheep Genetics will report to the Head of Agriculture and provide direct support primarily through management and oversight of various Departmental services.

Minimum essential criteria: to include a minimum Level 4 qualification (UK or equivalent) above in Agricultural or Livestock Science plus five years relevant professional experience OR at least five years professional experience in a role requiring an equivalent level of skill and training. The postholder should have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in livestock science/breeding or agricultural sciences and demonstrated knowledge of wool industry issues, including wool clip preparation and quality assessment.

To be considered for the FIG Grade C role the applicant should have a Level 5 qualification (UK or equivalent) or above in Agricultural or Livestock Science plus five years relevant professional experience OR at least ten years professional experience in a role requiring an equivalent level of skill and training. The postholder should have a master’s in science, (or an equivalent Level 7 qualification) in a relevant subject OR evidence of having significant experience of working in a role at the same level and of equal complexity as evidenced by a track-record of relevant research and/or extension outputs.

FIG Grade Starting Salary: This is a dual graded role depending on qualifications and experience, commencing from £42,641 - £49,090 per annum within Grade C (Policy Adviser) or from £47,928 - £54,924 per annum within Grade B (Senior Policy Adviser).

The Opportunity: To provide analysis and advice to shape policy development for the Falkland Islands Government (FIG). This work, undertaken on behalf of elected officials, senior government officers, and client departments, will cover a diverse range of topic areas including health and social care, education, public safety, emergency services, human resources, culture, recreation and other matters of national interest. The role involves using technical and analytical expertise to provide advice on how best to prioritise and gather the evidence-base, and using quantitative and qualitative research methods to collect, analyse, interpret and present evidence to form comprehensive policy formulation.  This includes working closely with analytical and other policy specialists within the Policy Department to ensure high quality recommendations are provided to client departments and decision-makers.

Essential criteria: include a degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject such as political science, economics, public policy, social science or law, with 5 to 10 years’ proven relevant experience in formulating public policy in a public sector or research organisation (government, non-governmental organisation or similar) with public policy responsibility.

The Opportunity: We are seeking highly motivated individuals to work within the Leisure Centre and National Sports Centre to carry out a variety of tasks that ensure the Centre is a safe and enjoyable place for the general public to use.

Essential criteria: to include a minimum Grade C/Grade4 in GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent), a current Pool Lifeguard qualification, (or the ability to gain one in a short time frame), a valid First Aid Certification (or an ability to gain one in a short timeframe). Training will be provided as necessary the candidate must also be a strong team player and have the capacity to work effectively with people of all ages and abilities.

The Opportunity: This role is pivotal in delivering comprehensive dental care including both dental hygiene and therapy activities and supporting the oral health of our diverse community. You will be required to perform dental hygiene and therapy procedures including examinations, radiographs, periodontal treatments, direct restorations, and deciduous extractions.

Essential criteria: include a Degree in Dental Hygiene Therapy, registration with the UK General Dental Council (or equivalent) and a minimum of three years relevant experience, ideally in a UK practice providing NHS care.

The Opportunity: To supervise whole classes during the short-term absence of teachers. To supervise students engaged in learning activities and to provide objective and accurate feedback to the teacher on the conduct of the lesson.  To give instructions for the lesson as provided in advance by a teacher and the primary focus of the role will be to maintain good order and to keep students on task.

Essential Criteria for the role include an ‘A’ Level/NVQ 3 Level or equivalent, (including evidence of a good level of literacy and numeracy, i.e. GCSE Grade C/Grade 4 or equivalent in English and Maths), have at least 2 years of experience working with and supervising children of the relevant age and the ability to manage and supervise the behaviour of a class of students. The start date of this role is the 01 September 2026.

The Opportunity:   To lead on adult safeguarding and complex cases, delivering statutory social work services in accordance with relevant legislation, including the Assessment and Safeguarding of Adults Ordinance 2020 and the principles of the Mental Capacity Act 2005, in preparation for the introduction of the Mental Capacity Ordinance. The role involves multi-departmental working, developing and delivering training on adult safeguarding and the forthcoming Mental Capacity Ordinance, and establishing internal procedures to ensure effective oversight of deprivation of liberty applications and reviews.

Essential criteria to include a degree in Social Work approved by one of the following regulators and current registration with one of the following Social Work England, Social Care Wales, Northern Ireland Social Care Council (NISCC) - in Northern Ireland, Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) - in Scotland or if qualifying after 2013, to have completed and passed the Assessed and Supported Year in Employment and five years relevant post qualifying experience of working in the UK. (Experience in a British Overseas Territory working under a UK model may be considered).
