NATURAL RESOURCES - Agricultural Advisor - Wool and Sheep Genetics

The Opportunity: The Department of Agriculture (DoA) works to foster a viable and internationally competitive agricultural industry through integrated services, applied research and development, extension, business skill development and regulatory programmes. The Agricultural Advisor – Wool and Sheep Genetics will report to the Head of Agriculture and provide direct support primarily through management and oversight of various Departmental services.

Minimum essential criteria: to include a minimum Level 4 qualification (UK or equivalent) above in Agricultural or Livestock Science plus five years relevant professional experience OR at least five years professional experience in a role requiring an equivalent level of skill and training. The postholder should have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in livestock science/breeding or agricultural sciences and demonstrated knowledge of wool industry issues, including wool clip preparation and quality assessment.

To be considered for the FIG Grade C role the applicant should have a Level 5 qualification (UK or equivalent) or above in Agricultural or Livestock Science plus five years relevant professional experience OR at least ten years professional experience in a role requiring an equivalent level of skill and training. The postholder should have a master’s in science, (or an equivalent Level 7 qualification) in a relevant subject OR evidence of having significant experience of working in a role at the same level and of equal complexity as evidenced by a track-record of relevant research and/or extension outputs.

TREASURY DEPARTMENT - Company Taxation Officer

Job Title:  Company Taxation Officer

FIG Grade:  B starting salary from £47,928 to £54,924 per annum depending on qualifications and experience. 

The Opportunity:   The candidate will be required to apply tax legislation and procedures to obtain Tax Revenues for the Falkland Islands Government, focused on Corporation Tax and Income Tax for unincorporated businesses.

Essential criteria: substantial experience in a Tax Office environment and relevant professional qualifications will include a detailed technical knowledge of UK tax legislation and at least one of the following qualifications – HMRC Tax Professional Development Programme, Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) or CCAB /CIMA accountant, or equivalent.

Contract Type:  This is a two-year fixed term position on standard FIG terms and conditions.

The Opportunity: Reporting to the Head of Environment, the Environment Policy Officer (Pollution & Waste) will play a key role in advancing pollution prevention and waste management, through policy development and operational programmes of the Environment Department.

Essential criteria: to include an undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline, such as environmental science or management, public health or similar, a Master’s Degree or postgraduate qualification in environmental sciences or management, public health or similar discipline, a minimum of 5 years relevant work experience in government, non-governmental organizations, industry, research or similar, with a pollution, waste or environmental health focus and an advanced understanding of environmental issues and impacts and, especially, of pollution prevention and waste management.

Essential criteria:  to include a master’s degree level, (or equivalent work experience at an equivalent level) and registration as a Nurse with the Nursing Midwifery Council. The postholder must have a minimum of 10 years’ relevant post-qualification experience demonstrating proven evidence of leadership and management with at least 5 years clinical experience.

FIG Grade: Grade C starting salary £42,641 - £49,090 per annum depending on qualifications and experience.

The Opportunity:   To lead on adult safeguarding and complex cases, delivering statutory social work services in accordance with relevant legislation, including the Assessment and Safeguarding of Adults Ordinance 2020 and the principles of the Mental Capacity Act 2005, in preparation for the introduction of the Mental Capacity Ordinance. The role involves multi-departmental working, developing and delivering training on adult safeguarding and the forthcoming Mental Capacity Ordinance, and establishing internal procedures to ensure effective oversight of deprivation of liberty applications and reviews.

Essential criteria to include a degree in Social Work approved by one of the following regulators and current registration with one of the following Social Work England, Social Care Wales, Northern Ireland Social Care Council (NISCC) - in Northern Ireland, Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) - in Scotland or if qualifying after 2013, to have completed and passed the Assessed and Supported Year in Employment and five years relevant post qualifying experience of working in the UK. (Experience in a British Overseas Territory working under a UK model may be considered).

Job Description - Advanced Practitioner - Adults

Offshore Petroleum – Sustainability and Socio-Economic Officer

FIG Grade C starting salary £42,641 – £52,555 per annum depending on qualifications and experience.

The Opportunity: to be responsible for managing all data collection, analysis and development of data management systems associated with both the environmental and the socio-economic sustainability of the offshore petroleum industry. This will include the analysis and fulfilment of national and international reporting and data sharing obligations. Additional to this, the post holder will be responsible for providing the secretariat function for the Falkland Islands Environmental Impact Offsetting Trust.

Essential criteria: to include a bachelor’s degree and significant experience (7+ years minimum) in sustainability, environmental and/or socio-economic research and data analysis. Experience of oil and gas projects would be advantageous Additionally, extensive experience of operating within a public sector or research organisation (government or non-government) and understanding complex datasets and successfully delivering research projects to deadlines.

The Opportunity: to be responsible for ensuring that all licensing and compliance activities are delivered to the highest standards, supporting the Falkland Islands’ commitment to maximise economic recovery and ensure the development of a long-term industry presence that will benefit the Islands for decades to come. This role is critical to maintaining transparent, robust and efficient licensing processes within the Department of Mineral Resources, enabling the effective business management of offshore petroleum developments.

Essential criteria: to include a bachelor’s degree and a Level 6 (or similar) CMI Management or Leadership Qualification. Significant experience (7+ years) in a senior business management role, which involves delivery of licensing and associated commercial management. Experience of oil and gas projects would be advantageous Additionally, extensive experience of operating within the public sector or third sector (government or non-government) that has involved licensing management
