FIG Grade C starting salary £43,141 - £53,055 per annum depending on qualifications and experience.

Market Supplement: This role may be eligible for a market supplement of 30% of the basic salary per annum which would be subject to an annual review.

The Opportunity: Provide support, guidance, and expert advice, including regulatory advice, to the Director, and the Project Director. With regards to all aspects of Health & Safety requirements.

Essential Criteria: A Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject area, (e.g. public policy, law or health & safety etc), a Masters (or equivalent qualification) in any discipline containing significant content relevant to the offshore hydrocarbons industry, a minimum of 5 years’ relevant public sector policy experience, (ideally in off-shore Health, Safety and Environment), evidence of good interpersonal skills and the ability to advise and collaborate effectively with individuals at all levels across government and with external stakeholders.

The Opportunity: The Waste Operative will undertake a range of duties required to operate the Eliza Cove Landfill and Waste Transfer Facility at Megabid. This includes driving and plant operating duties on and around the landfill sites and the Waste Transfer Facility as required by the Waste Manager.

NB: The post holder will be required to undergo inoculation against Hepatitis A & B if not already inoculated.

Essential Criteria: A valid HGV licence, a minimum of 2 years’ experience in the use of heavy plant and machinery, including 360 excavators, 180 excavators, telescopic handlers, and dozer. An understanding of domestic building services maintenance and repairs is also required.

Policy Officer (Bycatch Mitigation and Fisheries Management) - Fisheries Department

Job Title: Policy Officer (Bycatch Mitigation and Fisheries Management) 

FIG Grade D1  £36,274 – 44,564 per annum depending on qualifications and experience.

 The Opportunity:

The position takes a leading role in interaction assessment, mitigation and policy development for unwanted bycatch of higher-level marine animals during commercial fisheries including coordination and implementation of the National Plan of Action for seabirds and other bycatch (e.g. seals). The post holder will provide policy support for the development of Fisheries Management Plans (FMPs) and associated work such as consultations and policy drafting. It involves working closely with Falkland Island Fisheries Department (FIFD) observers, managers, stakeholders and external experts. The post will provide the science-policy interface in relation to fisheries bycatch mitigation work and fisheries management and publicise the work both locally and internationally.

 Essential criteria includes

  • A degree in a related subject (e.g. marine biology, ecology or policy),
  • Post-graduate degree (MSc or equivalent) in Marine Biology/Ecology or related subject.
  • At least 3 years of work experience in bycatch mitigation relating to the fishing activity and/or fisheries management,
  • A good understanding of commercial fisheries and fisheries management processes and solutions
  • Experience working across government departments and engaging with stakeholders, ideally conducting policy consultation exercises
  • Good understanding of the ecology of seabirds and marine mammals, and associated conservation issues
  • Substantial level of computer literacy, including experience of working with databases (in MS Access)
  • Skills in statistical analysis and statistical programmes (e.g. R), with an ability to analyse and manage large datasets.
  • Excellent communication skills in English with strong interpersonal and networking skills. Proven ability to work with a range of stakeholders and convey technical and scientific concepts and facts to a variety of audiences, including industry, government leaders, international scientists, and the general public,
  • Ability to write detailed comprehensive reports and policy submissions for cross government and external consultation and for Government officials, and
  • Ability to organise and lead meetings and workshops

Essential criteria: Level 3 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care (FREC 3), C1 category driving licence and a minimum of twelve months of experience of driving a passenger car or light commercial vehicle. Appropriate training maybe given to applicants who do not possess the C1 driving licence.
