FIG Grade B: starting salary £47,428 to £54,424 per annum depending on qualifications and experience.

The Opportunity: With a particular focus on mixed clinical work and disease control, the successful applicant will work alongside members of the Veterinary Services team, (and other colleagues within the Department of Natural Resources) to provide a complete, professional clinical and public health veterinary service to the Falkland Islands.

Essential criteria: include a Bachelor’s Degree in Veterinary Medicine/Science, being registered with the UK’s Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS), (or a recognised international equivalent) and having at least 5 years post-degree experience evidencing a good track record of surgical competency, and clinical experience in small animal, farm animal and equine veterinary work.

The Opportunity: The post holder will support the management of external and Department of Agriculture certification and regulatory standards and schemes and assist in the issuance of certifications within the Biosecurity and Veterinary Services and the wider Directorate.

Essential criteria: 

include a degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject or the ability to demonstrate substantial relevant work experience in a role of comparable complexity and requiring a similar level of professional skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to effectively use Microsoft Office programs, Meticulous data management and record keeping skills as well as the ability to work effectively, both independently and as part of a small team.

Essential criteria: include GCSEs in Maths and English at C or equivalent, a current Pool Lifeguard qualification, (or the ability to gain one in a short time frame), a valid First Aid Certification (or an ability to gain one in a short timeframe). Training will be provided as necessary the candidate must also be a strong team player and have the capacity to work effectively with people of all ages and abilities.

This will include upholding regulations, ensuring that FIG safety and security is maintained, supporting the provision of harbour control services and ensuring the safe transit and handling of vessels into and out of the port.  

Essential criteria: include holding an International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) Officer of the Watch (Deck) REG II/1 (Unlimited) Certificate of Competency or Vessel Traffic Service Operator certification and 5 years’ relevant experience.

The Opportunity: Reporting to the Head of Environment, the Biodiversity Protection Advisor will contribute to advancing management and protections of biodiversity, species, and protected areas, through policy development and operational programmes in the Environment Department.

Essential criteria: to include an environmental science/management, natural sciences or similar undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline. The successful candidate should hold a Master’s Degree or postgraduate qualification in environmental sciences or management, natural sciences, or similar discipline with a minimum of 5 years relevant work experience in government, non-governmental organizations, industry, research or similar, with an environmental or scientific focus, and an advanced understanding of environmental issues and impacts and, especially, of biodiversity threats, management, and protections.

The role is challenging and fast-paced and includes managing internal and external multi-disciplinary professional and construction teams, leading the management of FIG’s contract with its development partner, acting as FIG’s representative for local stakeholder engagement, and ensuring robust project governance and controls are in place.

Essential criteria: include a Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject, (or evidence of other suitable equivalent training and job experience), along with a Masters, (or equivalent qualification/experience) in a related field, relevant project management accreditation and extensive experience of delivering complex major infrastructure projects on time and within budget.
