Head of Communications

The Head of Communications leads a small team and has overall responsibility for the proactive and effective management of internal and external communications, including media and public relations for the Falkland Islands Government (FIG) public service. In this critical role, you will provide expert advice and develop comprehensive communications strategies related to key government issues. You will also be responsible for managing an annual public diplomacy programme, in partnership with the UK Foreign Commonwealth & Development Office. This position requires a high degree of autonomy and judgement and works directly with the Chief Executive, Corporate Management Team and elected officials.

Chief Executive - Falkland Islands Government

Starting salary up to £142.7k gross per annum, (with more for exceptional candidates).

Whether providing strategic advice and policy guidance to Members of the Legislative Assembly, offering advice and support to the Governor, or leading and directing the Falkland Islands Government Public Service, this is a multi-faceted role offering stretch and challenge to an accomplished leader used to working effectively at the political interface and with a broad and diverse range of stakeholders.

The Chief Executive will be alert to, and engaged with, the changing external landscape whilst ensuring a focus on performance improvement, transformation and delivery across Government to ensure the Falkland Islands is well-placed to capitalise on and reaffirm its position in the world. Comfortable in a representational role, you will be at ease contributing to the reputation of the Falkland Islands both nationally and internationally.

Already experienced as a senior leader, and with an appreciation of Public Service and its values, you will need to be able to translate your experience into ensuring an effective public service that enables all the members of this unique community to thrive and fulfil their potential.

The post is offered on a fixed term appointment of up to 4 years initially, with the possibility of an extension for up to a further year. Standard FIG terms and conditions will apply.

Senior SHIELD Support Worker

The post holder will be responsible for the line management of the SHIELD Support staff and will help develop policies, procedures and best practice that ensures that those taking part in the SHELD program are provided with experiences aimed at promoting independent living and the development of life skills through appropriate support and guidance. The postholder will also have a key responsibility in identifying any staff skill gaps and sourcing appropriate training and development to ensure the programme will run smoothly and that the staff have the necessary capacity and competency to deal effectively with a wide range of complex needs. Essential criteria for the role include a L3 Diploma in adult social care or related field, a L2 certificate in Health & Safety, an in date Safeguarding Qualification at Level 2, a valid driving minibus license and a minimum of 5 years’ experience of successfully working with people with SEND.

ALL DEPARTMENTS – CASUAL WORKERS

The Falkland Islands Government are seeking applications from people who would be interested in providing casual support to various departments during the next twelve months as required in order to cover short periods of leave or other absences.

Rates of pay will vary depending on the nature of work undertaken at any time and the skills and qualifications held.

Infant Junior School & Camp Education Part-time Clerk   

FIG Grade G1: Salary range £19,559 - £24,140 per annum (pro-rata) dependant on qualifications and experience.

The Opportunity: We are seeking for a responsible individual to provide clerical, administrative, organisational and logistical support within the Infant & Junior School and Camp Education. Essential criteria include GCSE pass in English & Maths and a current valid driving licence.  The candidate must have experience as an office administrator, office assistant, or similar role within a similar working environment.

Contract Type: This post is a part time, permanent post (0.4 of a full time equivalent) on standard FIG terms and conditions.
