HEALTH & SOCIAL SERVICES -  Staff Nurses and Senior Staff Nurses

The Opportunity: The Health and Social Services Department have opportunities available for registered nurses to work within the nursing team.  This opportunity will provide dedicated nursing to patients by promoting health and developing areas of nursing expertise. 

Essential criteria to include United Kingdom (UK) registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council in the UK, (or equivalent registered body) and one-two years’ recent relevant health service experience.

DEVELOPMENT & COMMERCIAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT -  FIGAS - Licensed Aircraft Engineer

The Opportunity: To provide a safe and efficient standard of aircraft maintenance in accordance with the approved maintenance programme, taking into account, Safety Management Systems and health and safety procedures.

Essential criteria for the role include EASA Part 66 B1.2 Aircraft Maintenance Engineers’ License for fixed wing aircraft, type ratings or the ability to gain company approvals for BN2B Islanders, and Lycoming O-540 Engines and at least four years mechanical or engineering experience in aviation.

HEALTH & SOCIAL SERVICES -  Biomedical Scientist

The Opportunity: To support the provision of an effective and efficient medical pathology service alongside an expanding public health laboratory service to a wide range of individuals and organisations within the Falkland Islands.

Essential criteria for the role include a BSc in Biomedical Sciences or related subject, registered with the Health Care Professions Council (UK), and at least 3 years’ experience working in a clinical Blood Science laboratory.

HEALTH & SOCIAL SERVICES -  General Kitchen Assistant

The Opportunity: To provide domestic and dish washing support to the Health Services Kitchen Department and ensure hospital standards of hygiene are maintained.

Essential criteria to include a Food and Hygiene Certificate, the ability to follow basic instructions and work schedules. The post holder must be able to maintain a high standard of personal cleanliness and understand how crucial this is for patients’ health and welfare within the hospital kitchen environment.

PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT -  Administration Assistant

The Opportunity: To provide clerical support to the municipal and housing department in the provision of maintaining records and data bases effectively. 

Essential criteria for the role include a minimum of Grade C/ Grade 4 (or equivalent) in Maths and English, a current driving licence and two years’ experience working in an administration role.

EDUCATION DEPARTMENT -  Senior SHIELD Support Worker

The Opportunity: To be responsible for the line management of the SHIELD Support staff and will help develop policies, procedures and best practice that ensures that those taking part in the SHIELD program are provided with experiences aimed at promoting independent living and the development of life skills through appropriate support and guidance. The postholder will also have a key responsibility in identifying any staff skill gaps and sourcing appropriate training and development to ensure the programme will run smoothly and that the staff have the necessary capacity and competency to deal effectively with a wide range of complex needs.

Essential criteria for the role includes a Level 3 Diploma in Adult Social Care or related field, a Level 3 certificate in Health & Safety, an in-date Safeguarding Qualification at Level 2, a valid driving car & minibus license (B & D1) and a minimum of 5 years’ experience of successfully working with people with Special Educational Needs.

EDUCATION DEPARTMENT -  Quality Assurance Coordinator

The Opportunity: to develop and co-ordinate appropriate training courses for the public and private sectors with a particular emphasis on the National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) programme, and, as Quality Assurance Co-ordinator for National Vocational Qualifications, be responsible for ensuring that Falkland College complies with the NVQ Code of Practice and meets the awarding bodies requirements.

Essential Criteria: candidates must be a qualified and experienced Assessor & Verifier, (A1 and V1 Award or equivalent) with a thorough, up-to-date knowledge of the NVQ process, have a NVQ Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject. The postholder would ideally have a minimum of five years’ administrative experience, preferably in a role which involved close contact with the public, Government departments and private sector organisations together with excellent communication and organisation skills; and a genuine interest in training.

 

DEVELOPMENT & COMMERCIAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT -  Duty Supervisor

The Opportunity: To take direct responsibility for ensuring a safe, clean and welcoming environment for staff, school pupils and general public.  There will be a requirement to take total charge of the Leisure Centre when the Deputy or Centre Manager is absent. 

Essential criteria for the role include 5 GCSE’s at Grade C/Grade 4 or above including English and Maths, current National Pool Lifeguard Qualification, or the ability to gain it. The post holder should have a current First Aid at Work Qualification and NVQ Level 3 in Health and Fitness (or related subject). Candidates must also have experience working in a customer facing environment, providing the highest levels of customer service across a range of clientele, managing communications and resolving conflict.

EDUCATION DEPARTMENT -  Special Needs & Disabilities Coordinator SENCo

The Opportunity: the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) is responsible for directing provision and intervention strategies within the 3 – 16 age range in the Falkland Island Schools, ensuring that children with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND) receive the support needed to thrive in an educational setting.

Essential Criteria to include Qualified Teacher Status, a National Award for SEN Co-ordination or NPQ SENCo (L7), Access arrangements qualification (L7), At least 8 years’ recent teaching experience, within the United Kingdom or a British curriculum school and 3 years’ experience working in schools as a SENCo.
