NATURAL RESOURCES DIRECTORATE - Biosecurity Assistant - Part Time Position

Closing Date:  7 March 2025

 

We are also looking for a dedicated individual to join our team as a Biosecurity Assistant. The post will assist with protecting biodiversity and safeguarding the Falkland Islands from invasive species, pests and diseases.

Key Responsibilities include conducting inspections of imported goods, fresh produce, vehicles, personal effects, and passengers to identify potential biosecurity risks, collecting and preserving samples to facilitate identification and tracking of plant and animal pests, engaging the public awareness and education campaigns on biosecurity issues and supporting invasive species control efforts and emergency responses to biosecurity threats.

Essential criteria for the post include keen observations skills, good attention to detail, computer literacy, ability to multi-task and good communication skills. Higher graded appointments will include additional qualifications in biosecurity, environmental science, or a related field.

NATURAL RESOURCES DIRECTORATE - Agricultural Advisor - Farm Certification and Accreditation

We are looking for a dedicated Agricultural Advisor to support certification and regulatory schemes for agricultural produce. This is a great opportunity to contribute to the sustainability and international market access of Falkland Islands agriculture.

Key Responsibilities include supporting and promoting the department’s farm certification schemes (e.g., Responsible Wool Standard, Quality Falklands Wool, Organics), liaising with certifying bodies and assisting in farm audits and compliance, managing the department’s schemes, ensuring timely application and auditing processes, assisting in processing export livestock health certificates and import/export licenses, and maintaining livestock identification and movement records.

Essential criteria for the role include a degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject (or the ability to demonstrate substantial relevant work experience in a role of comparable complexity and requiring a similar level of professional skills), strong communication and interpersonal skills, good computer literacy, precise data management and record keeping skills and the ability to work effectively, both independently and as part of a small team.

DEVELOPMENT & COMMERCIAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT - Maintenance Manager - FIGAS

Closing Date:  28 February 2025

 

The Opportunity: To hold responsibility for the leadership and management of Aircraft Engineering section and ensuring that it meets all requirements for the Continuing Airworthiness of the FIGAS fleet. The role also involves management of assigned tasks, staff, equipment and resources within the boundaries of the Safety Management System to meet operational demands, whilst liaising with other departments to ensure a smooth and cost-effective air transport system for the Falkland Islands.

Essential criteria for the role includes extensive relevant work experience in an aircraft maintenance environment or a similar role (i.e. minimum of 10 years’ experience, 5 of which should be at senior management level), a valid UK/EASA B1.2 Part 66 Aircraft Maintenance Engineers Licence (FAA/IA Transport Canada licences might be accepted.

DEVELOPMENT & COMMERCIAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT - Customer Service Officer - FIGAS

The Opportunity: To provide a customer service facility for the processing of passengers, baggage mail and air freight at Stanley Airport.

Essential criteria for the role include a GCSE Grade C/Grade 4 in Maths and English or equivalent, a valid driving licence and a minimum of three years’ experience in an administration role.

PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT -  Head of Generation

The Opportunity: 

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all aspects of electricity generation within Stanley’s Power Plant, including ensuring its operational efficiency and driving continuous improvement in generation performance. The role will also involve directly managing a team of technical and operational staff.

 

 

PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT -  Head of Distribution and Contracts

The Opportunity: 

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the safe, efficient, and reliable distribution of electricity from the power station to the grid and end-users. The role will also encompass overseeing contract management, as well as ensuring that agreements with suppliers, service providers, and key stakeholders support the strategic and operational objectives of the service.

The Opportunity: 

The successful candidate will oversee the management, operation, maintenance and co-ordination of all energy transmission and distribution networks and systems run by FIG to ensure the safe and efficient generation of electricity for all service users.

 

PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT - Project Support Officer - Administration & Planning

The Opportunity: To support the delivery of projects aligned with FIG’s strategic goals and capital developments, ensuring the efficient and effective planning, monitoring and management of key programmes and initiatives.

Essential criteria for the role include an NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification, at least five years’ relevant work experience and a strong understanding of project/programme management principles.
