POLICY, ECONOMY & CORPORATE SERVICES DEPARTMENT -  Economist & Policy Advisor

The Opportunity: To provide economic policy analysis and advice across FIG, as well as leadership on the application of economic principles and tools for the evaluation of public policy options and decisions.  The incumbent is also responsible for the preparation and publication of various national economic indicators and forecasts in the national interest.

Essential criteria to include a Masters’ degree (or equivalent) in Economics, Public Policy or in another subject with evidence of equivalent advanced-level courses in economics and/or policy analysis; and 5 years’ relevant post-qualification experience in a public sector, not-for-profit, research organisation or private sector entity with public policy and/or economic analysis responsibility.

 

NATURAL RESOURCES DEPARTMENT - Stock Assessment Scientist

The Opportunity: To undertake stock assessments of commercially important fishery species and provide timely scientific advice to the Falkland Islands Government for long-term sustainable management of the fisheries.

Essential criteria for the role to include a PhD Level (or equivalent) in an appropriate biological, fisheries or mathematical discipline. A completed training in fisheries stock assessment or other relevant discipline, such as population dynamics, including the ability to apply standard fish stock assessment techniques and to develop new approaches, together with a high level of competence with modern statistical methods.

LAW & REGULATION -  Head of Legal Services

The Opportunity:  You will lead the Legal Services Team within the Attorney General’s Directorate to deliver an effective and efficient legal and governance service to the Falkland Islands Government and to the Government of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands. As part of the Directorate’s management team you will support the leadership of the whole directorate, which comprises of Regulatory Services (including civil aviation and telecommunications regulation) and Registry Services.

Essential criteria for the role include being admitted as a solicitor or called to the Bar in a Commonwealth country or in the Republic of Ireland, a minimum of 7 years post qualification broad based experience including a good understanding of and an interest in public law and governance together with experience of advising local or national government on matters such as public law and governance and human rights, the law of contract, criminal law, tort and civil litigation.

PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT -  Casual Power Station Operator

The Opportunity: The Power & Electrical Section is looking for Casual Power Station Operators to provide cover for its existing Operators. The main purpose of the post is to prepare, monitor and control the running of power generating plant and ancillary equipment at the Stanley Power Station.

Essential criteria a good knowledge of diesel engines would be an advantage, but training in all aspects of the job will be provided. This post requires operating as part of a team on a shift rota system which can include working unsocial hours and public holidays. Applicants must also be physically fit for the role.

HEALTH & SOCIAL SERVICES -  Food and Water Scientist

The Opportunity: To support the provision of an effective food water and environmental testing (FWE) service to a wide range of organisation’s within the Falkland Islands. 

Essential criteria for the role include a BSc in Biomedical Sciences or related subject and at least 2 years’ experience of working in a Food, Water and Environmental (FWE) laboratory which holds ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation.
