EDUCATION DEPARTMENT -  Shield Support Worker

The Opportunity: To assist the SHIELD SEND Teacher and the SHIELD Senior Support Worker with the running of the SHIELD Centre. To work with individuals or groups to ensure a secure and safe working environment either at the Centre or in the wider community.

Essential criteria to include GCSE grade C/level 4 in English & Maths (or equivalent level 2 qualification), a valid manual driving licence B (Car), a minimum of 2 years’ experience of working with people with SEND and have excellent organisational and interpersonal skills

 

NATURAL RESOURCES DEPARTMENT - Veterinary Officer - Public Health

The Opportunity: The Department of Agriculture Veterinary Service seeks applications for a full-time Official Veterinarian to join their small, busy team in 2025. The position will primarily consist of regulatory public health duties including regulation of an EU approved abattoir and fishery product establishments.

Essential criteria: Applicants must have Official Veterinarian qualifications with at least 5 years public health experience and familiarity with HACCP documentation.

NATURAL RESOURCES DEPARTMENT - Head of Fisheries Management

The Opportunity: to ensure the timely and effective management of the Falklands Fishery making evidence-based decisions, using stakeholder, science and compliance information, by working in conjunction with the Deputy Director of Natural Resources. The successful candidate will provide leadership for the team responsible for the monitoring, control and surveillance of the Falkland Island Conservation Zones and other associated fishing activities.

Essential criteria to include a degree (or equivalent) in Marine Science or Fisheries Management (or a relevant subject), with minimum 7 years’ proven experience in a fisheries related role, including personnel management in a similar field or evidence of playing an active role in fisheries/marine enforcement. The applicant needs a comprehensive understanding of fisheries and other maritime legislation.

NB: Applicants without the listed qualifications may be considered if they satisfy other requirements to a very high level or have had previous proven experience within fishery protection or law enforcement appropriate to the post.

POLICY, ECONOMY & CORPORATE SERVICES DEPARTMENT -  Economist & Policy Advisor

The Opportunity: To provide economic policy analysis and advice across FIG, as well as leadership on the application of economic principles and tools for the evaluation of public policy options and decisions.  The incumbent is also responsible for the preparation and publication of various national economic indicators and forecasts in the national interest.

Essential criteria to include a Masters’ degree (or equivalent) in Economics, Public Policy or in another subject with evidence of equivalent advanced-level courses in economics and/or policy analysis; and 5 years’ relevant post-qualification experience in a public sector, not-for-profit, research organisation or private sector entity with public policy and/or economic analysis responsibility.

 

POLICY, ECONOMY & CORPORATE SERVICES DEPARTMENT -  Assistant Environmental Officer

The Opportunity: To provide high level administrative and logistical support to the Environment Department to enable the delivery of a wide range of environmental strategies, programmes and initiatives.

Essential criteria for the post include A-Levels, NVQ 3 or equivalent in a relevant subject such as Geography, Environmental Studies or Natural Sciences, 3 years relevant experience, (gained either in the workplace, during school/college/university or via an apprenticeship, or whilst  volunteering or taking part in other similar activities) which demonstrates clear evidence of the capacity to communicate effectively, think critically, listen actively, build consensus, plan effectively, apply a high level of emotional intelligence, multi-task effectively and deliver clear tangible outcomes.

 

NATURAL RESOURCES DEPARTMENT - Data Scientist

The Opportunity:  to provide data management and analysis expertise to support operations, decision making and extension activities in the Departments of Fisheries and Agriculture.

Essential criteria to include a degree (or equivalent) in a scientific subject with a high numerical/statistical/Information technology content (or equivalent qualifications) or experience showing particular strengths in these areas. The post holder should have at least two years’ proven experience of environmental, biological data management, data analysis, or other relevant discipline together with a good understanding of database principles and programming skills.

DEVELOPMENT & COMMERCIAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT -  Casual Sports Attendants

The Opportunity: we are seeking highly motivated individuals to work within the Leisure Centre to carry out a variety of tasks to ensure a safe and enjoyable place for the general public to use.

Essential criteria for this role include a current Pool Lifeguard qualification, or the ability to gain, a valid First Aid Certification and sporting/leisure/fitness experience. Training can be provided for the right candidate.  The candidate must also be a strong team player and have the capacity to work effectively with people of all ages and abilities.

HEALTH & SOCIAL SERVICES -  Casual Kitchen Assistant

The Opportunity: The Falkland Islands Community School is seeking to recruit a qualified, enthusiastic, creative and experienced Teacher of Science to start in September 2025.

Essential criteria applicants must be graduate teachers with Qualified Teacher Status (recognisable in the United Kingdom) who have completed their induction as an ECT and have at least 3 years’ recent experience within the UK or British curriculum school.

 

NATURAL RESOURCES DEPARTMENT - Stock Assessment Scientist

The Opportunity: To undertake stock assessments of commercially important fishery species and provide timely scientific advice to the Falkland Islands Government for long-term sustainable management of the fisheries.

Essential criteria for the role to include a PhD Level (or equivalent) in an appropriate biological, fisheries or mathematical discipline. A completed training in fisheries stock assessment or other relevant discipline, such as population dynamics, including the ability to apply standard fish stock assessment techniques and to develop new approaches, together with a high level of competence with modern statistical methods.
