Update on Covid-19 swabbing and vaccinations in the Falkland Islands

As of today, Wednesday 14 April, the latest Covid-19 swabbing results are as follows:

• Total number of PCR swab tests taken and processed to date: 7,191
• Total number of swabs taken but not yet tested: 0
• Total number of positive test results since 3 April 2020: 62
• Number of current positive test results within the Islands: 7

These positive cases relate to the southbound flight which arrived in the Falkland Islands on 31 March. A member of the crew became unwell on arrival and was confirmed as positive for Covid-19. In line with protocol, the track and test system was immediately implemented, and all Level 1 contacts were immediately put into isolation. All individuals will remain in isolation and will continue to be tested in accordance with government guidelines.

Our Covid-19 vaccination programme has gone extremely well and we have now given the first dose of the vaccine to 2,632 people, which is 94% of the eligible population (over 18 years of age) and 74% of the Islands population.  A further 1,775 people have now also received their second dose, which means 63% of the eligible population are now fully immunised. KEMH are now working on plans to provide the remaining individuals with their second dose later on in May and details of this schedule will be published in due course.
